Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (b)

Posted on Thursday 24 March 2005

Green_greerWhile I appreciate Kyle’s concern (see previous post) for
congregational unity, I don’t think you should achieve it through legislation.
If the pastor in Kyle’s analogy would split the church, in which God has
presumably called him, over a given political party - that church has a far
bigger problem than politics.

It is important to remember that God does not belong to any
political party. Moral absolutes, such as those listed in the Ten Commandments,
are not applied differently to Democrats and Republicans, or Sunnis and Shiites
for that matter.

A resolute disciple of Jesus Christ should be able to
address a moral injustice, such as the treatment of Terri Schiavo in the court
system, and use the names of the judges or candidates who intend to further that
injustice… as a matter of free speech.
